Ronnie O’Sullivan plays Judd Trump in the Welsh Open this afternoon, with the Rocket looking for revenge after a heavy Masters defeat.
We’re getting excited about today’s quarter final between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump and some will feel it’s a shame that this isn’t the final considering these are the two most exciting players in the game right now.
O'Sullivan goes into the game on the back of a seven match unbeaten run in ranking events; he picked up the German Masters title a fortnight ago and will be hoping to make it back-to-back ranking wins by lifting the title this weekend.
The Rocket has been in full flow, demonstrating a new-found bout of mental strength as well as his undoubted natural cueing ability.
He has defeated Marco Fu and Mark Williams with relative ease so far and is now guaranteed an automatic place at The Crucible in April, lifting the pressure from his shoulders.
UK champion Trump saw off Staurt Bingham 4-1 last night and will be encouraged by his good record against The Rocket.
The left-hander dumped his opponent out en route to the UK Championship title as well as at the Masters, however will be aware of the fresh threat posed by the three-time world champion.
Trump has recently become favourite to win the 2012 World Snooker Championship and it’s easy to see why, with the 22-year-old improving with every tournament and he is the bookmakers favourite to claim victory in Newport this week.
Both are deadly break builders and are certain to provide another highly entertaining match when they meet on Friday afternoon.
The winner will face either Stephen Maguire of Mark Selby in the Semi-Finals on Saturday.
