The Rocket picked up from where he left off at the German Masters in Berlin a few weeks ago with a polished performance to see off a helpless Marco Fu.
The three-time world champion emphasised his world-class calibre with a century break to round off a fine victory over the Hong Kong ace.
Fu was resigned to his seat for the majority of the match and was soon 2-0 behind after O'Sullivan won the opener and doubled his advantage with an 88 break.
He did however look to stage a fightback by winning frame three, but the Chigwell ace moved further in front at 3-1 and went on to seal the victory with a crowd pleasing century in the next.
Elsewhere this afternoon 1997 world champion Ken Doherty was on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing from UK Championship finalist Mark Allen.
Matthew Stevens came through a tough battle with Barry Hawkins 4-3 to book his place in the Last 16 much to the delight of his home crowd.
The Welshman will face Stephen Maguire in his next match after The Scot defeated qualifier Adam Wicheard 4-2 this afternoon.
