Since returning from Wales, Ronnie has been extremely tired and has again been advised to rest in order to recuperate for the busy spring schedule.
Regrettably, Ronnie has decided to withdraw from the Haikou World Open following Doctor's orders.
The Rocket was initially affected by the viral infection during the German Masters, but defied the painful symptoms to win the event.
He struggled to shake off the illness during the Welsh Open last week but again produced some superb snooker in reaching the Semi-Finals.
The three-time world champion has opted out of numerous events this season, including the Australian Open at the start of the season due to medical reasons.
He declined his invitation to the Snooker Shootout event in January and has spoken of carefully selecting his PTC events in the coming seasons as he reaches the twilight of his glittering career.
His good run of late has seen him climb back up to 14th in the order of merit, guaranteeing him an automatic spot at the World Championship in Sheffield in April.
“I am very sorry that I have to withdraw from Haikou," said a frustrated O'Sullivan.
"Despite my illness I have been competing well in recent weeks and was greatly looking forward to taking part in the World Open and meeting my fans in China. However, I have to listen to my body sometimes and I have decided that I will be in better shape for the climax of the season and the World Championships if I listen to my doctor and spend the next few weeks resting.
"I hope I can make it to Ireland in China in March and look forward to seeing you all soon,” he added.
The Haikou World Open returns to the snooker calendar this season and will be played from February 27 to March 4, 2012, on Hainan Island, China.
